Suraj ChaudhryFounder & CEO

Suraj is the Founder of Woodruff Advisory Services, a boutique firm specializing in executive coaching, training and facilitation.

Experience

Suraj has over two decades of experience in the corporate sector and as an independent consultant. Over 17 years in a corporate career, Suraj has worked across Asia Pacific, Middle East Africa, Europe and India and has been part of organizations such as IBM, GE, Airtel, Escorts Ltd. and VNL in senior roles spanning Sales, Marketing, Management Consulting, Operations and Strategy Planning.

He founded Woodruff Advisory Services in 2011. A certified coach (NEWS/CLI/RCS) and trainer (Dale Carnegie) for senior management, Suraj has been a consultant to Promoters/Directors and senior executives on building leadership pipeline and succession planning by creating pragmatic work plans to make teams more effective at work. His strategy planning and business consultancy experience on people, process and technology helps him provide a much more holistic solution to clients. His skills and expertise include Executive Leadership Development, Business Strategy, Executive Coaching and Senior Management team Facilitation.

He did his B.Tech (Mech) from IIT (BHU), Varanasi and MBA from MDI, Gurgaon (Marketing and Strategy).

He likes practicing yoga, writing short stories, sketching and swimming.

He is also associated with the ‘Teach India Campaign’ to educate the underprivileged.

Aparna SharmaAssociate

Aparna specializes in building corporate Balanced Portfolio of Measures for clients for the past 10 years. She has been trained by Mercer Consulting (US represented) on the Balanced Portfolio of Measures methodology.

Aparna is a postgraduate in Business Management, with a specialization in Human Resources and Strategy from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Experience

Aparna’s professional experience spans industry, geography and consulting. She has an overall experience of 17 years. She has been associated with Hewitt Associates (4 years) & Mercer Consulting (4 years). Other than this, she has also worked with Procter& Gamble (P & G) and has been consulting to managements for 14 years. Currently she is an independent consultant with a focus on designing people strategy & process.

Her consulting assignments consist of various aspects of human resource interventions including HR strategy and plan design; organization design including structuring/ restructuring, job evaluation, grading, competency model creation and individual assessment; career and succession planning; performance management including creation of portfolio of measures, performance measures & linking performance to pay.

Her diverse client portfolio includes MNCs like Microsoft, Benetton, Bank of America, DBS Bank, Accenture, Cairn etc and large Indian Corporates like Gujarat Gas, Reliance, HCL Technologies, Indian Oil Corporation, ICRA, Crisil, Maruti Udyog Ltd. Hindustan Times & Escorts etc.

During the assignments, Aparna has worked extensively in helping the companies to align their HR strategies with their overall business strategy. She has continuously provided extensive support and coaching to the top leadership teams of these companies in capability building.

Executive Coaching

A typical executive coaching engagement starts with a ‘get to know each other better’ session between the coach and the coachee. There are also inputs from HR and the coachee’s manager or sponsor on what they feel are the symptoms or areas that the coachee needs to work on. HR may even share some assessment reports on the candidate to help the coach get started. All of it is helpful. A Coaching engagement is like peeling an onion. The coachee keeps discovering different facets and perspectives about themselves which helps them arrive at the root cause of the symptoms that others see. Using a whole brain thinking the coachee can arrive at their solutions more easily thus causing a permanent change in their behaviour or skills. Coaching conversations are strictly confidential.

Some executive coaching case studies

  1. A mid manager Director level employee in an ITES company was unsure of the career path as he felt saturated in his current role. Six coaching sessions and five months later he was a changed person with immense focus on taking on newer challenges at work.
  2. A group of sixty delivery managers (DMs) in a BPO were group coached in batches. The objective was to increase their ownership and accountability at work and equip them to be able to influence their counterparts in other geographies. The group coaching helped the DMs become more self aware and work on their SMART goals as part of their Action Learning Projects.
  3. In a transition coaching, an Executive Director of a company (turnover USD 3 bn) was planning a second career after his impending retirement. Having multiple qualifications he was thoroughly confused about the best course of action to take.
